Kelly

Performance description (day)
Kelly’s performance is very high energetic with non stop action. When you think of air show performance’s Kelly is recognized throughout the United States as one of only a few who make her powerful Pitts Bi Plane do maneuvers that are breathtaking.

Kelly starts the routine with a normal spin that is crossed over to the inverted. And she begins spinning inverted, Kelly accelerates the spin to flatten is out like a spinning top. This maneuver is over 2 ½ negative G’s and the forces are as though Kelly is being thrown out of the aircraft. Kelly recovers from the spin and dives towards the ground pulling out at 200 mph for her next maneuver.

Some of the maneuvers are gyroscopic maneuvers which the aircraft tumbles end over end accelerating with each routine and all are again negative maneuvers. The centrifuge is one of the gyroscopic maneuver’s is very special to Kelly as Sean was the one who taught it to her and only a few know this maneuver. A few others are various ways to tumble the Lomchevek.

Seeing an aircraft going straight up takes precision, but to see the same aircraft fall back through their own smoke is the hard maneuver a pilot will ever be able to accomplish. The tail slide is one of the most impressive maneuvers because the plane is actually falling back toward the earth and is completely controlled by the pilot.

Can a plane fly sideways? One might think only in a movie. Kelly has the knowledge to actually fly the plane sideways which is showing a perfect display of the entire top wing.

The gracefulness on how Kelly makes a four point roll. You can count the second’s as Kelly rotates the aircraft 90 degrees, stops, rotates it another 90 degrees to the inverted, stops, another 90, stops, and make to the upright.

The show performance has gracefulness, precision, and extreme aerobatics. Flying slow rolls shows what is takes to control such a gentle machine, flying speeds over 200 mph shows this aircraft is a beast, flying the spins and tumbles shows that Kelly is taking this aircraft from positive to negative maneuvers which are so demanding on her body that you have to be 110 % focused. Years of training are how you master these types of maneuvers. Safety is paramount and Kelly is mentally and physicall on top of her game every time she steps into this aircraft.

Background
Kelly is known in the aerobatic community as “Flying Babe” from Oklahoma. Given the name by Sean Tucker, air show legend, during her trip to California and hands on the control of the powerful Pitts S2C Bi plane. What was meant to be a one-day adventure turned into a love of aerobatic flying and the start of a new career toward air show performing.

Kelly was a police officer protecting the citizens of Midwest City, in Oklahoma. During her career as an officer, she was honored as being selected as one of the first six officers’s chosen to be part of the bicycle officer program. In 1996 she was chosen as one of only fifteen hundred sworn law enforcement officers to be part of the Olympic Security Force Team in Atlanta, Georgia.

Kelly is the only female Oklahoma air show performer. Kelly received her 500’ waiver in June 2006. Making calls and getting the break she needed was a success with her first air show performance at Tinker Air Force Base on July 1, 2006. Thanks to many people who allowed her to break into the industry, she performed at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas and was honored to be a part of air shows featuring the Thunderbird jet team.

Kelly received her surface level waiver and is flying with the best in the world. Being at this level and flying the hard charging maneuvers is very depending on the body. Training and fitness is a must to be able to perform at this level.
